Greetings all,
96 5.0 auto 2wd Explorer
I'm at the baffled stage. Searched with forums with no luck.
See if I can make this understandable....
This is a sudden problem....no previous suspicious behaviors.
Key on run, all normal. Good lights all indications normal.
When I turn the key to start, dash lights, radio and assorted stuff dims as it normally should, headlights don't change. And nothing happens.
After all my diagnostic rummaging today, there is no power to the fender mount solenoid (the small wire from the switch) at start.
It will start and run fine when I jump from the battery to that post with the key in "run".
I did plug in an extra neutral switch quadrant I have with no change whilst fiddling.
I would say ign switch....however the remote start that has been on the truck will not start it either....with the same lights etc indications.
Another odd symptom is that the doors will lock and unlock if I turn the key to start 4 times fairly quickly.....
Where is that magical mystery relay or ??? that might be haunting me this way?
Any clues?

Explorer Gods please speak to me......I'm listening.
thanks

OK so I found it.....a kind of circuit interrupt security "chip" that had apparently been installed by a dealer at some point up under the dash. Had never moved it before now. Pulled the chip, plugged it back in and VOILA...all good.

Dealer is always messing them up...lol glad to hear you found the issue.
