Another OHV M90 build

Looking at that, its tough to know where the knock was coming from.
Tim was right, he had a feeling that this motor came from a place that is not noted for taking care of things.

I think the block and rods are the only things that I want to use from this motor.

 sweet baby jesus! i figured, like you said, the motor wouldnt be a1, but.......WOW! i didnt think it would look like that, regardless on how long it was sitting for!!!
me thinks that the bottom end of that motor will be taking a very long LONG bath in mr. hot tank.

Its black, but its so shiny, it looks silver with the reflecting.
Almost like black epoxy. At least it isn't as hard as epoxy. Just a greasy mess. I tried using cardboard under the engine, but the floor was still a mess. Then I had to try to use gas to clean the oil/grease off the floor....was all bad.

All I could thing is that this is how NOT to take a motor apart.

My oil pan had about two inches of that crudd in it when i did my rebuild.was the reason i did,it clogged my oil screen.but the rest of the motor looked good.block should be fine after the machine shop.

that was a nice floor.....oops....:(

Dono, JD, all this talk about oil has me concerned as I never really replaced mine (oil pump) during my rebuild (not full tear down). What kind of oil pressure were you seeing before things went wrong? Also, do you 2 have problems not doing 60mph around town driving? I find it increasingly difficult to keep my truck in the 40-45 range. I have to keep my foot just barely in and out of it just to maintain.

Phix, my issue is a weak cylinder. I know its not the head, as a full rebuild was done on the heads.

Since Tim donated a motor that I can use the bottom end, Im going to step up to a hotter cam (Probably the Comp Cams 422) and dual valve springs (Comp Cams 988).

I'll install a high volume oil pump at JD's recommendation. I doubt that any of this has to do with your issue though.

The oil pan didn't look too bad surprisingly enough. The oil pickup screen is probably over half clogged though.

I have the block in at the machine shop getting cleaned and checked before I order parts.
They will give me a call in a couple of days, letting me know about the block, and if/how much over-sized on the pistons need to be done at a minimum. I just want the extra insurance of someone looking closely at the block as an extra measure of safety.

I'll be ordering a new oil pickup also

here's a look at the oil pickup on the donor motor.

O yummy !!looked just like mine.glad to see project moving so quick.

Damn. Lol. Mine came out looking decent compared to both of yours

Yea remember me saying..DAMN it looks pretty clean and good!!

Yea I remember lol. And this weekend we get to see how it looks after a year and a half and 6300 miles. Considering I kept having an issue and the oil ended up being chabged no more then 1500 miles apart and I ran so many cleaners through it lol

Hopefully you get your block back and its still usable so you get get your truck runnin gpod again. 422 sounds good to.

I don't expect yours to have gunk .i expect to see missing or broken rings or cracked pistons or bend rods!!:(

after seeing the pic of the bottom end off the donor motor, i cant understand why it had a knock :dunno:.
im starting to worry on what the crank measures out to now. good thing that motor was a easy pull.

No or low oil psi
