Sheesh... It's weird to realize it's been two and a half years since I was really active on the forum... I've still been around, just realized one day that I was using this site more for social networking then actual discussions about my truck and it wasn't that I didn't love the site, but there were other sites with more bandwidth just aching to be used for that purpose.
Up until November, I was still using the Explorer Forum regularly for reference, fixing this or that on my truck to keep it running... Until finally, with about 240,000 miles on the odometer (and only a few months after my 12th re-built transmission since it drove off that lot in late 1993) I threw a rod.
I took it as a sign that, FINALLY, it was time to junk the truck and go buy a car. I hated the idea of it, but in reality... It's been years since I was off-roading and living in the city, an 11mpg truck just didn't make sense with gas topping THREE WHOLE DOLLARS!!! (Sounds cheap just a few months later, eh?)
I ended up with a Mercury Milan and since day 1... I have been in awe of this car. I still find myself walking up to it and smiling, or running a hand along the trim. (No, seriously.) And as much as I loved my truck... I think I forgot what it was like to really, look forward to driving. (Last week I was shocked to find I was doing 97mph without a hint of vibration or strain... My truck's speedometer went to 85mph and at 65mph, I had every confidence my passenger-side door was about to fly off.)
It just dawned on me that, I took the time to say goodbye to my truck, but I never took the time to say good-bye to you guys... So thank-you. To whoever still remembers me and to everyone who gave me advice over the last 6+ years, whether they realized it or not... I have great memories of this forum and the guys on it. And although there have been a TON of changes since 2002 when I finally decided to stop lurking and join... it's always been a never ending wealth of information and assistance.
I'm reminded of a post I made, sheesh... Three and a half years ago... Closure is important... So this is mine.
Thank-You.
