If worse case I have to replace a pump that was low on fluid and may be going bad.

Does the Serpintine Pulley Press off? Does the Pulley have come off to mount the pump to it's bracket?

Typically you just have to remove tension from the serpentine belt and slide it out of the way .. the pump (along with the pulley) should come off as one unit after that.

I think most pumps you'll get from your local parts store will not have a pulley so you'll have to remove the pulley from the old pump and install it into the new one. Just as an FYI, sometimes the pulley bolts can be a little tight so it makes the job a lot easier if you loosen the nuts just a little bit before you remove the serpentine belt.

Thanks, If I need to do it I will try to crack the nut loose while the Serpentine has some pressure on it.

At a quick glance it just looked like the Pulley was bigger in diameter then the hole in the Bracket, That's why I asked.

you will need to remove the pulley before you can get it out of the bracket that holds the power steering pump.

Autozone has the pulley installer/remover tools in their tool loaning program. They also sell them in their OEM tool line. OTC makes a nice set, but it's a little on the expensive side. Harbor Freight also sells a set.

Having just done this job, there is a tool that you can buy that makes this job a little easier. As said earlier you have to remove the pulley to take the pump out. Autozone has an excellent pulley puller/installer kit, (that's who I used). Taking it off is easy enough. When reinstalling I recommend a strap wrench. Sears has them (under $20). If you have the ratcheting box end wrenches it goes on a lot faster with the pulley stationary. The strap wrench really cut the time down. (I have changed a pump earlier on another exploder). Hope it goes well.

Thanks all. The Starp wrench around the Pulley to hold it stationary...makes sense.

Metric Allen key for the bolt.

I may not need to replace the pump, maybe just a leaking hose. I just cleaned the area to watch it but it looks like where the fist Fitting screws into the Pump is where it's weeping. not the hose to that fitting.

I cleaned the area and put a paper towel around it. My kid is driving it abit today, I will see where it's wet when i get home.

Thanks all

Whew, It was what I was Hoping it was. Just a leaky High Pressure hose. Replace it two days ago. all is quiet and dry.

$35 and 30 minutes of work beats doing the Pump.

Thanks everyone. I will keep in mind your answers when/if I ever have to do the Pump.
