I have a 97 XLT, SOHC, 2WD, stock with 159K miles. A few days ago I started hearing a strange "klunking" type noise especially when I hit a dip in the road. One time it sounds like it's coming from the driver front and next time from the driver rear. It doesn really sound like a "bang-bump" metal on metal noise, it's hard to explain. I jacked each corner of the truck up inspecting things and when I drove it again, the noise was much less, but still there. The shop guy drove it and did some looking and pronounced a bad lower ball joint on the passenger side. I may be wrong, but I don't buy it. Anyone have any bits of wisdom to share on this problem? I have done a search and can't find anything that seems to match my problem.
