any free image editing programs for MAC?!

hey guys im looking for image editing programs for MAC,i cant seem to find any that i can edit my explorers with, i always see pictures of other people editing others explorers so they can see what it looks like,i want something like that, if there are any that arent too expensive that would work too, but i dont want to spend 700 dollars for something i would be so completly lost in (photoshop lol) any tips or websites or links would be great!! thanks in advance guys!

For anyone else needing one: GIMP is one of the most developed open-source image editing programs.

Works great for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Also check versiontracker.com for shareware/freeware programs for the Mac (not MAC).

Although it isn't free, Photoshop Elements will do most things that an amateur will need to do with Photoshop. Personally though, I find that Adobe products are becoming more bloated and intrusive (i.e. they want to call home) every time they release something new.
