Description from the leader Mike Ball on the trail ride the 13th:
"We proceeded down 31? to the bottom of Dictum Ridge. The entrance is just off of someone's driveway. We proceeded up the hill to the first and only real obstacle. It is a ledge about 24" high. There are ways to the right and left of the ledge to get up but definitely will cause you to be off camber. We had all of the drivers park and walk up so that we could preview the challenge and discuss how to proceed. I chose to go up the left side. I definitely had my hands full doing that as well as getting into some very awkward angles.
Next came Mr. Cavaleri who was saying in the parking lot earlier that he would have not problems. Guess who had to be strapped going up the right side of the ledge and managed to cut the inside of his left front tire. Can we say trail repair and we just got started. lol. We then proceeded to have everyone else attempt the area of the ledge. Rob C provided most of the spotting. Thank you. The only one to go strait over it was the UniMog. Everyone else went to the right or left. The UniMog did need a few rocks stacked in front of the ledge because his front bumper was hitting it. Once that was done it was a cake walk for him. Bill Love had his newly modified toy out for a spin and followed almost the same track that I did up the left side. He had a little trouble but after a little bit of ribbing by yours truly managed to make the ridge with good finesse.
A few of the less modified vehicles had to be strapped over the obstacle. Lockers where definitely a plus on this one. If you had a carburetor you most likely had trouble as well. The angles where enough to mess with the carburetor. Some even had to be strapped because they could not be restarted due to the angles.
Only one vehicle could not be restarted after getting past the ledge. It was due to electrical problems.
That took us over 2 hours to do. And with the mechanical failures an other hour or so. We finally met up with the non-hard core group around 3:00pm. "
Sorry for the long posts but thought I would give some indications of what the trails are like.
Tim be great to have you along- which day?
