Seems like a common problem here. I wonder if anyone has done it from start to finish with pictures.

Hearing a roar at WOT

Now this is new. When I floor the throttle I hear a roar/rumble, accompanied by some vibration in the seat, that sounds like a muffler. When it downshifts it almost goes away. The thing is if it were the muffler I would hear it when I rev it in Park but I don’t. Transmission? It is “new” as in rebuilt.

I just did mine, upper and lowers, took 4 hours but did not fix the rough idle, hard start! The gaskets looked nasty and intakes were dirty but no solution. Sorta at wits end!

That must be the worst feeling. I have been quoted $1200 to do both and even though the guy says he is positive it’ll fix it I am no sure. What led you to believe that gaskets were the cause?

Advise from here. I am on a small island in the Bahamas with no access to a code reader. I am real close to hauling it to the dump but everything else works and the tires are good. It was not really a difficult job.

I know. At some point you have to cut your losses and let it go. On the outside they may look like a million bucks. You just can’t see it sent to the crusher.

If you've thoroughly checked for other vacuum leaks, clean the IAC valve, throttle body, and MAF sensor if you haven't yet. GL

Yes I have tried that as well. I am now looking on the ignition side. I put in new plugs but that made no difference. Maybe the wires or the coil. I guess I will have to get someone to bring me aver a code reader.

With little experience that I have with vacuum leaks, if idle smoothes out after a minute or two of engine running it is the intake gaskets. Do you have access to a smoke machine?
