Iv looked all over the web and cant find much info on big block swaps into rangers.

I had a guy call me the other day and he wants me to build him a big block ranger. He has an 83 ranger. He wants me to build a new frame for it out of C-channel for some reason.... It will have a 9" rear and dana 44 front with 4:10 gears. It will be using a twin turbo'd 460 and a C6. Interior will have an aluminum dash that I will have a shop bend up for me, and I will put all the necessary guages in it. Then a roll cage, and 2 bucket seats. I dont know how much lift he wants it to have yet. He was thinking that he wants 40's on it.

Clearance is going to be VERY tight with this swap. Im planning on cutting the front fenders in half and adding 6-8" of length to them to help with clearance so i can actually fit an intercooler in the front.

Anybody have any input on a BB swap? I have only done small block swaps up to this point. I had a 302 in a 92 explorer. A 302 in a 90 ranger, a 302 in a 96 ranger, and a 347 stroker in a 96 ranger.

I need to get some info on this. He is only giving me 5 months to complete the entire truck.

Thanks,
Andrew

I know a guy a couple hours away that has a 460 in that body style ranger. His is dropped on bags and pretty much all custom but it is using the stock frame (except for the notched rear). Its possible, but you're not going to have much Ranger left. You'll definitely need a huge cowl hood and major floor pan modifications for the tranny. Not sure where he is planning on putting the turbos unless they are remote. Having a big lift should help with the clearance issues some but there is still only so much room between the fenders.

When I make the frame I am planning on welding the body mounts up as high as I can, and I will most likely put a 3" body lift on it to.

Im also not sure where the hell the turbos are going. I guess I will see where they will fit after I have the motor and tranny all mounted in.

I have never thought about doing that but if I was going to do it I would use an extended cab, move the firewall back to get the length, use a set of fiberglass prerunner fenders to ge ta little bit of room on the sides, and drop the turbos down into the the front bumpers and cut some holes to keep them fed, the njust dump the exhaust out through the fenderwells cause there ain't no way in hell it'll be street legal.
