Hi all,

I appreciate anyone's thoughts on what my options are for returning some seat covers that I bought from a Ford dealer online. The seat covers are shown on Fords Accessories site as fitting a 2016 explorer but after spending an 1/2 hr trying to put one on I called the manufacturer. They told me they don't fit a 2016.

Unfortunately for me I made the mistake of recyclingthe box. I trusted that Ford would have the intelligence to properly post on their site what covers fit which model but I guess that was my second mistake.

The accessories site has no phone number to call and the dealer won't accept them. I guess I'll need to sell them on my own?

I appreciate anyone thoughts on this.

So you bought them from a dealer, not directly from Ford?

What were the terms of purchase and return with the dealer? It sounds like returns had to be made in the original box (so they could resell them), and the dealer is refusing the return because you don't have the box.

Thanks for the response. I bought the seat covers from levit town ford online. I first saw the seat covers on the ford accessories site but you can't directly buy from ford, you have to buy from a ford dealer. Both the ford site and levit town ford site have the seat covers fitting a 2016 explorer.

The invoice from the dealer does not state that I need the original box but the ford site does say that you need the original packaging. You are correct that they need the original box to re sell the covers, which I totally understand. I would also need to pay a 20% re-stocking fee because of the mistake on the ford sites as well.

However, I would not need to return the covers if ford and their dealers could probably tell customers what model year explorers the seat covers fit. I guess I expect to much of ford and their dealers to be able to maintain a website with accurate selling information. My mistake for recycling the 50 cent piece of cardboard but a billion dollar company should be able to properly maintain a website as well.

I guess my only option is to sell the seat coves myself. Anyone need some seat covers? Ha!

Thanks again for responding to my post dco.

My opinion is if the item was misrepresented they should take them back regardless if you have the box or not as long as they are not damaged. If they would take them back a 20 percent restocking fee for their mistake....I don't think so.

Agree with JMR. if it were me, I'd first try to escalate within Levittown and see if they would make an exception since they were spec'd for the '16 but didn't fit.

Maybe the parts guy isn't authorized to make an exception, but the GM certainly could.
