I have an Audiobahn AW1200EU sub (700rms) in a single sealed, wal-mart box, powered by Power Acoustik 1100 watt amp. Anyways, I thought that this sub would be a lot louder than what it is. I mean I wanted the kind of power to get some attention and maybe rattle my car some, but this sub just isnt doing that. I guess I just overestimated what a single 12 inch could do. Well I saw a post on here a while back that said this sub performs particularly well in a large ported box, and im wondering exactly how much difference it will make. The box im talking about is the one in this link, or if someone knows of a better one maybe someone can help me out. sorry for the lengthy post

that box might just be a little too big for the 1200. the 1205 would sound great in that box. it would probably get you quite a few tickets for noise violations;)

you can try it, but slowly turn up the volume so you can hear if the sub starts bottoming out. that wal-mart box isn't going to make any subwoofer sound good.
maybe try building your own box. if you need help figuring out the correct port size let me know.

oh and that power acoustik amp isnt really putting out 1100 watts. it's probably putting out about 300 (maybe less). i've dealt with power acoustik amps before, and they never reach their rated power. and the numbers that they put on the amps (eg. 1100) is supposed to be the peak.

How much smaller of a box should I go with other than the one in the link? I know it will be louder in a ported box but does that sub sound better with sealed or ported? And im now considering trading up on my amp, since I figured power acoustik's numbers were a little more accurate. The place I bought it from gives a 3 month trade up period so I plan to take it back and get something nicer. Lee- This audio shop has amps such as Power acoustik, earthquake, american pro, formula, pyle, lanzar, legacy, boss. Now I know the best brands in that group are probably earthquake and american pro, (correct me if im wrong), And if I go with either earthquake or american pro, considering you know what these amps really put out, what wattage amp would be best with each of those 2 brands? Sorry for all the questions, ive been working on this audio stuff for a while now and I know that that sub is capable of so much more than how im running it now, thanks again for your help.

out of those brands, Earthquake is the only one i would go with. American Pro isn't very good. they are the same company as Performance Teknique and Volfenhag. you see them a lot at flea markets.

since your sub has dual 4 ohm voice coils, you should find an amp that is rated at least 550 watts RMS @2 ohms mono (but an amp that is stable to 2 ohms mono is going to be more expensive). or an amp that is rated at least 275 watts RMS X 2 @ 4 ohms. your sub is rated to handle 700 watts rms, so you could go as high as 350 X 2 @ 4 ohms RMS.

as for the size of the enclosure. if you want harder hitting and deeper bass, you should try between 2 and 2.5 cuft. ported enclosure.

since they sell Audiobahn, why not get the A2801X

that's a great amp and it'll do a great job powering your subwoofer.
