Auto-dimming rear view mirror shakes

My auto dimming rear view mirror has started to shake a lot. This is driving me nuts and giving me a headache.

I don't see any way to tighten it, and wonder if the glue bond has broke from the windshield

Any one else run into the issue?

mine does that to, and it drives me nuts. i had to replace the windshield even because a rock smashed it, and it shakes still. i dont want to glue it, because if i have to change the mirror, im skaruuuude!

I was thinking of putting 2 sheet metal screws into the trim piece and use 2 rubber bands to keep it from shaking, but may look too Red-neck...

Maybe somebody bump into it and one of the little plastic clips that holds it on the support broke?
You might need a new one.

Mine has does the same thing ever since I got it. Do you have sort of a rapid shake back and forth right? I just don't look at mine, unless I have to.

What I am thinking it is something with the added weight of the controls for the delay, and auto dim feature, adds weight. and over time It sort of wears out the ball, and socket the mirror pivots on. I really don't know, I just tell my friends that my subwoofer works real well.

never thought of that. i know my truck came from factory without one, and i added it later on. the factory one was rock solid, both the auto mirror's shake, and my sub's dont pound that hard! lol

When I get done with all my suspension problems maybe somebody will have an answer. For now, it is on the bottom of my list. but since I practically look at it every time I drive, it may move up a few spots, may even get creative and move the controls somewhere else, I am OK with the old school ones.

Are you talking about the one at the rear end, I forgot that was even there. I am sure it is pretty crusty, and probably not doing it's job anymore. I may give that a try.

I'm serious. On substandard roads, out rear view mirror shook, rather, it resonated, when the 5th shock was removed. You could not identify a vehicle which was following.

I have TWO self dimming mirrors in different vehicles (Explorer and Sable) and none of them are shaking. So it's not a weight issue.

What Turdle said might be correct - if any of the shocks are bad, will let vibrations propagate into the body. I have replaced all five shocks on my Explorer - and the fifth one was realy usefull (in sharp turns).

Thanks for the thoughts, but the problems seems to be in the mirror itself. If I put my hand on it, it stops moving. There seems to be play somewhere. Also, if if I touch the base of the mirror, it stops shaking.

Also this problem happened overnight, as one day it was fine, then this...

I just replaced mine with one that luckily did not shake. Is there any kind of adjustment? I had a friend who's mirror did the same thing in his Infiniti, but there was a screw that could be tightened to make it stable.

autolamp mirror works great, but plastic clips broke off in support on windshield

Need help in NE! My autolamp rear view mirror on my 97 Ford Explorer Limited works perfect. But it came off the windshield and I can't get it to stay back on. (I tried super glue but that lasted a week-ha!). The small plastic clips that insert into the support on the windshield broke. They broke off the mirror and they are stuck in the holes in the support. So, in effect both pieces have no way to stay fixed onto the windshield.

Is there ANY WAY to get this mirror back onto the windshield without purchasing an entire new one for around $500? I can put a regular one on for cheap, but I lose all the features. Plus, they still have to remove the support piece and risk breaking my windshield. (I told them to just put a new one beside it - I mean, I'm not driving a Lexus here... ) Seems like such a ridiculous amount to pay to replace something that is actually still working. Especially since my vehicle is a 97 and I just spent $550 to fix a brake issue and a head unit on my air conditioner.

Following. Just bought a 2011 Explorer and the windshield was speckled. The dealer replaced but after the replacement the mirror vibrates. It didn't do it before the new windshield. There must be some sort of adjustment screw. I will post if I find an answer.
