My shifter used to work fine. Gradually it started to not want to go into the detent for drive. I have to hold it to the rear like i'm coming out of park in order to pull it down. Before, once I pulled it out of park, I could let it go and just sort of push downward and it would drop right into drive and stop. Of course it required a rearward pull to go farther and would still go all the way down to 1st. Then I pulled the dash to replace the heater core. All the above symptoms are the same but now it wont go into first. Not just the indicator needle, it really won't hold the trans in first gear.

What did I screw up? I looked at the cable/mechanism in the column when I had it out for the core and nothing stood out. I was disappointed when I put it back together and it was worse. Any suggestions?

Nothin? Come on, somebody has an idea!

There are 2 torx bolts that hold the shifter tube to shifter mechanism at the bottom of the steering column. Look under the dash and move the shifter and you will see the loose bolts.

That easy? Thanks, gonna go check right now.

Right on the money! Thanks for a precise fix to my issue. I love it when it's that easy.
