95 Explorer XLT
I have a 95 XLT with 80,000 miles on it. Bottom line is I want to keep this vehicle for many years. I put on 7000 miles a year on this vehicle. I don't tow anything and most of the driving is highway with some city driving. I just had the tranny completly re-built. I thought that it would be a good idea to use synthetic ATF from now on. It calls for Mercon ATF. What is a good all synthetic ATF for the 95 Explorer? Is Mercon V a synthetic? If it is can this be used instead of the Mercon ATF? Also do you think that it would be of any benefit to add a cooler? If so would you hook the cooler up BEFORE the radiator or put it in the line AFTER the radiator? Would it be wise to just bypass the radiator transmission cooler all together? Sure would like your input on this. Thanks alot!

I would definately use synthetic ATF. I currently use Mobil 1; it or Amsoil would be my choice.

Definately add a tranny cooler.

Another thing to consider is an external tranny filter. I did this and it works great.

Good luck.....
