been having troubles with my transfer case shifting into 4x4 high and 4x4 low. I kno its the plastic gear that position the gear into 2 high, 4 high, and 4 low. im just tired of that same problem. so im wondering if it is possible to put a stick transfer case in? and what is all needed. also thinking to put a manuel trany in it as well but not sure jus yet. I do a lot of 4x4ing and like the auto trany.

There's a product called the "Shiftster" which is a simple knob that replaces the shift motor on the back of your transfer case (requires you crawl under the truck to operate it), however the best (most practical IMO) option is to swap in a manual 1354 transfer case. Though not real common, they (along with manual hubs) were offered in '91-'94 Explorers, and '90½-'97 Rangers as a "Delete" option for the electric-shifted automatic junk. You would need the case, the shift lever & linkage, and the corresponding floor plate (stick/auto) for your transmission tunnel (or I guess you could just cut another hole in your existing floor plate as well).

ok cool thankx bud.
ill make that happn

now what about a heavier duty trany???

I went with an M5ODR1 from a 93 Ranger when I did mine and the manual x-fer came from an old Bronco II (92 I think). Lost the nuetral safety and cruise control and had to rewire the reverse lights, but other than that I couldn't be happier with the swap. Good luck.

I converted the auto trans and electric shift transfer case to a manual trans and "stick" shifted transfer case in my 94. I pulled to whole thing as a unit from a 92ish Ex at a pull and save. very straight forward high value mod in my opinion. The hardest part was removing and installing the clutch pedal itself. if you can do that without throwing something your a better man than me.
