I was wondering what would it take to add automatic lighting to and xlt explorer? I have a 1997 explorer xlt with automatic light sensor and switch on the rear view mirror. Since I have a spare mirror and sensor, what would it take to add this feature to his truck? He has a 1996 xlt with every option but this. Is it just a wiring harness swap and just plugs in.. Or is it a major hassle? It would be a cool birthday gift if not to elaborate to add. Any info would be greatly appropriated. Thanks! James

Bumping this because I picked up an auto mirror at the wrecking yard today. At the very least I would like to know the wiring to use the monochromatic mirror.

Thanks.

It's actually quite easy. I did it on my 97 xl. Basically if you have an overhead console it's even easier. There's a thread here with the wiring. The hardest part is connecting the wire to the right relay and pin to activate the lights.
