We just purchased an '06 Mounty AWD Premier. It has the factory Nav and 6-disc changer system, but does not have an aux input for mp3 player. I am not interested in replacing the headunit.

In '07, Ford included an aux input next to the 12V outlet on the front console (behind front cup holders). Anyone know if that same thing can be retrofitted into my '06? Can the radio/nav unit be reflashed to recognize and provide a new input like that? If not, what's the next best option?

I've seen the Ford Aux input that give RCA inputs, but it looks like that plugs into the CD-changer jack. I want to keep my CD-changer functioning.

Thanks!

I"ve not seen a '06 but the CD changer should be part of the radio. I've no idea how but can you pull the radio and look in back for a 20pin harness connector with only two wire being used? That usually is the hookup for aux input and it shouldn't affect the CD player, but Nav unit might use it?

I'd like to see the back of that thing. ..
found a pic. .

has the plugs you might be looking for?

Is it for an IPOD or a different mp3 player?

It looks like there are some solutions out there that use the sat radio instead of the changer port. Some work with the sat radio and others only work if you don't have sat installed.

Without sat:

With sat:

That would give you ipod plus an aux for any other brand.

Take a look here too. It looks like the ipod solutions work with nav but the regular aux solutions dont. Just scroll down until you get to the ipod and aux sections.

It's a non-ipod mp3 player. All I need is an aux 1/8" input jack, like you see from the factory on most vehicles today (on Explorer/Mountaineer since '07).

post above 3 link to installer shows:

PIE adapters:
FRD04-AUX (this would require and adapter RCA to 1/8"female)
or
X3-FRD-P2
or
APAC-FRD24 (note it has the two ends of the harness, connects like a 'T')

search on those key words might help if it works or not?
