I told him I was going to be doing an AWD to 4x4 conversion on a '98 5.0 Explorer
It is noticably better, I fill the truck up about half as much it seems, maybe 3-4 mpg gain?
3-4 MPG is a serious change (20% increase) - I'd be really impressed if it's true!
I'm trying to figure out how long it would take for this mod to pay for itself... If not too long, I'll buy my dad's '98 Mounty and do the swap.
Too bad I hate the torsion bar suspension... that may be enough to push me to a Grand Cherokee or a Tacoma
Would you go with 3.73's or 4.10's for an all around gear with this swap and 32's (MPG, off road, towing being my order of importance) - I ultimately wouldn't be going any bigger than a 285/75R16 or 33x10.50
