So my 96 xlt has an axle code pointing to an open diff. but with the 3 inches of sleet we received last night my driveway shows different.

Is this possible with an open diff???

Thanks in advance for the info.

Looks like a open to me. The right side stopped spinning. L/S would have spun both the whole time.

Every now and then a open diff will spin both then quit like yours did.

...What is your axle code and what its suppose to say? (So all future readers will know)

...I really can't answer from that one pic as there may be other variables not seen. The right track does look normal for an open and the left track looks like the tire was just picking up the snow, not as deep until after the right side quit spinning...:dunno:

Sorry guys the Axle code is 45.

Both tires spun until the right one quit. The left just piled the snow up on the beginning of the spin. Last night while driving the back end would break loose and fish tail if I got on it.

Sorry guys the Axle code is 45.
Both tires spun until the right one quit.
Both will spin if both have equal amounts of non-traction.
