'02 Ford Explorer XLT
This time I'm experiencing a lot of loud squeaking coming from the suspension of my '02 Explorer XLT. I can't seem to put my finger on it. It squeals and squeaks from every corner with even the lightest task of me getting in and out of the vehicle, and NO, I'm not a large person. I've attempted to lube the control arm bushings but no difference. While I was down there I looked for grease zerks but didn't see any. Do these vehicles not have any lube points? Has anyone suffered the same with their Explorer? I'd like to know how this was remedied. It's starting to get a little embarrassing as I drive it, its extremely loud.

The sway bar bushings can squeak and they can be greased either by a needle tipped injector attachment for a grease gun or your can unbolt them and grease them by hand. "Energy Suspension" products sells aftermarket bushings that come with a grease nipple built into them to make future greasings much easier. They cost around $20 for the set and you can get them at Advance Auto parts stores for sure. You just have to measure the diameter of your sway bar and there are past posts in here on how to R&R the sway bar bushings. Also, the Ford factory strut/spring assemblies are known to squeak when they get older(mine do), but after speaking to my mechanic about this, he said it is perfectly normal on a 3rd gen Ford Explorer. As long as the springs are not broken or the struts are leaking hydraulic fluid, they are okay to use, just noisy at times. On lube points, none that I know of unless you have aftermarket suspension parts like ball joints that came with grease fittings. The Ford factory parts are grease sealed from the factory, un-greaseable.

I have the same prob on my 99 but only in the front, no squeaks then I washed it with Armour All Wash & bingo really annoying & sometimes LOUD squeaks. Even if just sitting still & turning the steering wheel, I tried spraying everything rubber or poly with Lanolin spray which seemed to work for a very short time. Might try the sway bar bushes though, as stated. :australia

Thanks guys. I'm gonna look into the sway bar bushings asap. I completely forgot about this thread so sorry for the delay in responding.
