so long story short, I know I need tie rod ends - they are almost shot. I have had a "shimmy" at highway speeds for a few weeks, but holidays, etc. just bad timing. fast forward to Monday - Snow and Ice comes, I slide into and over a curb, taking a yield sign down on the way (oh, the irony). NO (major) visible damage except a few minor scratches on the front passenger wheel well moulding. I drive home, all is good. Keep in mind we now have snow covered everything, including the underside of my truck.
the next day I notice a vibration and noise to go with it. kind of a fast clunking thumping sound like it would be from something rotating. Today it is very noticeable, a "loud" almost clunking noise that only occurs under acceleration. when coasting - quiet. in D, 3, 1, traction control, no trac, etc. doesnt matter. the noise is there under load.
doesnt sound metallic like brakes grinding, or humming like bearings - more like a rough rumble you can feel and hear. seems front end driver.
CV joints do this? of did my curb jump finally knock the rod ends completely out of whack? driveshaft? I am lost - and still snow covered and cant afford to pay a shop right now to "look" at it until they tell me all the things I know are wrong and then address my issue!
