I am having some issues with my tranny and im not sure if it could just be cured with a valve body rebuild or band adjustments. I dont wanna go through the hassle of replacing things it if its pretty much pointless. My tranny feels like it has a loss of power at warm up till about 15 seconds. But when I go, it will NOT shift from 1-2 unless i let the gas off for a good second. Then every other gear goes in, but its a little high in rpms and it waits a couple seconds till it finally goes in and by then, the O/D light is blinking. I feel like i dont have a last gear... Going 55-60 and the rpms are about 2.3? Dunno if thats normal. This is really killing my MPG!! My gear selector doesnt "click" into the gears i choose (P,R,N,D,1,2) it just sorta goes into it. If its hot, the trans will lightly jolt into the gear. Anyway its a 5r55e tranny with 109k. I've changed fluid and filter also. ANY help would be appreciated!!!!

You describe symptoms of a broken band. While it may not be that, it certainly doesn't sound good. I'd be curious to know what codes are being stored.

I went to get my codes read and the goof ball said I couldnt get any codes because the check engine light isn't on.... lol? Not really sure what else to do.

Thats what I figured. Definitely not going back to that trans shop if they're that dumb.

Just got done adjusting the bands. No luck. Anyone know if this is a VB issue? I dont have the "2-3 Shift Flare". I just have 1-2 "No shift unless off foot off pedal" flare lol

The PCM scans everything, so if there is a problem, it will set a trouble code. Find a shop which is capable of reading the codes. Knowing the code will eliminate guess work. Check WWW.ATRA.Com for a shop in your area.

Finally got the codes read.... P0733 and P0735. "incorrect band ratio" got that for both gears 3 and 5.. ANY help would be appreciated!!!

Both codes are first - check the solenoids, and failing that "other internal parts". If you took it to your FORD dealer, you could tell them to hook up the NGS Tester and run "Pinpoint Test J".

There is a strong liklihood you have a failed shift solenoid. It would likely be either Shift Solenoid A, B or C.

If you are up to it, it might be a good time to rebuild the Valve body and do upgrades.

Glacier.

ps. There IS a chance it is something other than a solenoid failure, but given the two codes together I am pretty confident it is a solenoid failure. If not it could be internal to the Valve body, or could be friction material failure.I am betting solenoid.

I bought a rebuilt valve body and went ahead ahead and got all new solenoids with it. I will let you guys know if anything changes. Thanks for the quick responses!

Just out of complete curiosity, would the gear selector have anything to do with my problems? Its really loose. I sometimes think its in either R or D but its actually in neutral

So i put a valve body in, it didnt work. Got a new one and it didnt work. Both of these came with new solenoids. Any other suggestions?

But when I go, it will NOT shift from 1-2 unless i let the gas off for a good second.

Isn't this a broken band? Mabye the servo?

Its shifting now but around 3 grand. Any ideas as to why its so late?
