I hate to be the one to ask....but do you have a talley (or ballpark figure) on how much money you have in that? Im not building my explorer like that (trying to sell it) but Im curious as to the cost of what you did compared to the costs of a leaf spring swap or a coil swap (which i know the costs of).

Well doing all the work myself kept the cost down -- including rebuilding and regearing the front axle. The rear axle was bought ready to bolt in. I already had all the tools (welders, chop saw, grinder, drills and drill presses, compressor and air tools, and so on) .. but a grinder did break so I replaced it with another. The other expensive parts were the air-shocks (~$700 -- not as expensive as coil-overs), the tires were $500 from a local dude, and the rest was on parts like d44 gears, a new carrier, hi-steer arms, link parts/joints, a lot of steel, cheap steely wheels that didnt even come painted, and other minor things ..
My "wish" list before the cold months come:
- put in the front locker
- get some shocks on the back (no shocks right now)
- make it as close to road legal as possible (fender flares?)
- build another roof rack except out of aluminum (i gave my steel one away - but the new one is going to be ultra bling
)
- hopefully get a winch and build a bumper around it (going to push the "bling" factor on this too)
Then come mid-December, I'm supposed to pick up 97V8 at the airport so he can pick up what used to be my D35 front IFS axle --- he's a loonatic

He's not getting the entire IFS, just the stubby differential.
As of yesterday - Spas has most of the IFS suspension and steering (woot I just said 'suspension suspension'!!)
I think 97V8 plans to stuff it into a check-in luggage (duffle bag?)
(I hope I havent ruined 97V8's plans by revealing too much info
)

Thanks again, IZ! Morgan's happily rolling around the parking lot again, this time with the stupid halfshafts IN
Although after seeing the ziptie rigging I whipped up to keep the shafts from banging on the A-Arms (since there's no pumpkin in there anymore), my friend commented, "You really need to move outta that ghetto already..."

So we'll be able to see this infamous "Morgan" at the next meet-n-greetSpas said:Morgan's happily rolling around the parking lot again, this time with the stupid halfshafts IN![]()
Well today I got the speedometer to work. Previously the transmission would shift properly - meaning the RABS was working - but the speedometer would be at zero mph. Then I remember Stick-o's post (http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1485864&postcount=182) about Jefe leaving the ABS controller on in order for the speedometer to work. And sure enough, the speedometer worked after plugging the controller in.

Hehe yeah I guess it doesStic-o said:so your tone ring on the t-case works? That's great!![]()
Of course I don't know whether or not I put enough teeth in the tone ring so I don't know how many MPH its off by.. but I'll see if I can get a friend to follow my Explorer and we'll compare the two speedometers.

As long as you have something to use as a base. You can get a chip to correct it, right? If you were that motivated....

Oh yeah, the d35 weighs 65lbs.

I will get you the measurements and the weight in 24 hrs.
If the speedo is off by say 5mph at 55, then I'm not worried. But if its a lot more than that, then I'll slice up another d-44 carrier bearing race with the proper number of teeth.section525 said:As long as you have something to use as a base.
