Hi,

Ive been reading up on some basic lifting techniques on this forum...

I have a 1997 explorer 4.0 with 31 inch tires. I go camping often and have had a couple of issues with the belly of the car touching rocks and stumps and mud of course...

the ride to where i camp is about 400kms...its also a daily driver.

What would yall suggest as a lift for the car.

I was thinking a tortion twist for the front and shackles for the back...

Also all shocks are completely rusted out, what would yall suggest in that department as well, thanks again
And we are carrying about 400lbs in the back(coolers, tent, etc.) And two passengers (about 350 lbs) so total let's say 750lbs...

Any input would be appreciated:thumbsup:

Thanks

If you don't have skid plates for atleast your fuel tank, that would be first on the list if you're hitting rocks, etc..

I have a 1.75" TT, WP lift shackles, 3" PA bodylift and running 33'''s on my '03 Sport Trac but will be doing an SAS, SOA in about a year or two, saving up money and gathering parts now.

You don't want to go more then 2" on the TT because you'll do serious damage to the frontend components.

Ok, I measure with the car on the floor the distance between the top of the tire and fender(gave me 4"). Then I jacked up the front end and lubed up the tortion bolts...I noticed that the driver side bolt is threaded all the way in yet the passenger bolt not nearly as screwed in...its so far out that I can't get a socket around it because its being ubstructed.... I will try to post pics tonight...

and if anyone has a suggestion for shocks???? i need to get started but want the best advice!

Thanks guys!

Anyone?????? Cmon where are all the gear heads at yo!!?!?

You can get longer torsion bar bolts from Todd Z at Zabteck.com, he also makes and sells alot of aftermarket parts for our trucks.

Bilstien shocks. I would do a TT up front and do a add a leaf or a shackle in the rear. If you want more do a 3" body lift and put a real locker in the rear with 33"s.

rock ranger, why do u suggest the Bilstien shocks? and where can i get them?? btw im in Canada!

Also, how do i know, that maybe the previous owner did a tt lift in the front?? maybe thats why the bolt is allthe way in??

Thanks!

bilstiens are very popular here on the forum. alot of guys run them. personally i run rancho rs5000's (as do many others as well). theyre a little bit cheaper and have a little bit more stiffer valving but would be great offroad. you can pick either up at like an orielly autoparts store if yall have them.

ok so i guess ill go with the bilsteins...

this is the website i found...free shipping with a purchase of more than 75$...pretty good for me considering its a canadian website, but which ones should i get??

with o/air ride? standard? heavy duty? lots of different models... if any of you know which ones, please let me know....im going to be completing the tortion twist and shackles soon.

Thanks

Ok I don't know why the forum won't let me post the link, but the web site is autopartsway dot ca . If someone can email me the part#s I should get it would be greatley appreciated! My email is george_hagop@msn.com

anyone??? please i want to order....and also what about the 3rd shock in the back? should i just ditch it? or are all 3 the same size??

anyone have model numbers for the 5 bilstein shocks?

i called summit racing and the dude asked me if its stock height or lifted...im receiving the shackles next week along with the tortion bolts..so i told the salesman that it had a two inch lift...he told me they only sell bilsteins with stock height and that he knew nothing about the 3rd shock in the back....

im at a loss here and dont know what to do...i just want shocks!!!!

The 5th shock is just there for body roll during acceleration and get's very little action. I got mine from Ford for less than $40.00 and it was real easy to put in!
