I put a new battery in lastnight and noticed my negative cable was completely corroded. I called ford to order a new one and they said it only comes in a set at 200 bucks . :fire:

Is there any other way i can repair this. Cant i just buy a negative or have someone make one for me? any ideas would be great.

Try an aftermarket part or go to a Marine Supply store and purchase cable and attach your own fittings. I would also replace the other cable too.

Good luck.

What is corroded?? The cable itself, or just the cable end?? You can replaced cable ends without getting a whole new cable.

The end and the cable are both messed up. Heres the part from FORD PARTS NETWORK. At least its 70 cheaper then FORD themselves. I just spent 90 bucks on a new Autolite plat batt so now another 128 ... FK FK FK!!!!! :fire:

POSITIVE CABLE, Explorer, Mountaineer, 5.0L, w/Message Center 99-01 $128.97

I just dont see cables being that much. Its not like there gold plated. Maybe copper? Couldnt i just buy my own cable and ends and install it for like 20 bucks. Is there some need to have a 130 dollar cable ???

I would assume that the cable you need has a couple different ends on it, rather then just a single end like a normal battery cable. Most new cars have custom battery cables, eliminating the cheap universal battery cables of the past. I think you may have to bite the bullet and buy the FPN one.

You could do that, but you have to make sure you have the right gauge wire, and of course you would have to run it to all the right places...

Man that is expensive though, I hope I don't have to replace mine any time soon...
