I have a 98 ford explorer and we just changed altinator and battery and my battery light is staying on and my battery gauge isn't running where it should. we had both tested and they are good they say check connections and weve done everything short of re wire everything help please

You need to be sure you have +12v at the alternator B+ terminal. That is the one on top that has the thick wire secured with a nut. If you do than its possible that you got a bad alt. Its not unheard of that re-manufactured units are bad out of the box. If you don't have +12v there then check the 175 amp mega fuse next to the power distribution box. It is under a little flip up cover attached to the dist box. You should have +12v on both sides of the fuse. One side of that fuse has a cable coming from the battery and the other side goes to the alternator. Try that and let us know.
 












Some newer vehicals have a reset button that has to be reset with a computer this is more comon in forien vehicals but is very common when dealing with anything electrical. you may need to take it to a ford dealer to have them reset the codes in order to have the battery gauge read correctly. :D
