Hoping someone here can help me diagnose this sound/problem
MY17 Platinum with 114K on it.
I just had the front brakes and rotors done about 4K ago (last week.. just finished a 2k round trip where the problem started).
There is a sound coming from the front drivers side, that "sounds like" a bearing problem, but there are distinct differences (I've had two other previous vehicles with bearing issues so know the sound well)
1) The sound happens from 50kmph up to 140kmph (higher than that pitch is hard to make out)
2) Happens consistently and does NOT change under the following conditions:
a) steering left / right / center
b) Acceleration / deceleration
c) applying brakes
d) engine in neutral / idle as speed
3) no pulsation on the steering wheel
4) there is a difference in the sound compared to a bearing.. a bearing more of a droning sound, this is more of a "vibration" (more distinct high/low variation which happens. the frequency is directly related to wheel speed)
Looked out / ruled out
1) Obvious loose trim
2) Trim under the front windshield (taped down. no change)
3) damage to tire
4) missing wheel weights
What I have not tried
1) swapping that wheel to another corner
2) removing wheel and inspecting the area (I brought it in, to the dealer and told them that I never heard it prior to the brake work so they are looking into it
what I have noticed..
1) the rotors /brakes were changed at 109K which seems high compared to any previous vehicle I have owned
2) The new rotors are different as they are "vented" at the base where the "disk" portion meets the "hub" (Never noticed this in previous ones)
it's at the dealership now and they "heard it" but are trying to figure out what it is.
Anybody with an idea?
