Im getting 22â€￾ rims :D and im looking to update my stock brakes on my 98 Explorer 2wd. I’m thinking about putting the SVT Cobra big brake kit with 13â€￾ rotors on them. I just wanted to know if anyone new if they would fit :( and would any mods have to be made.

does anyone carry an upgrade over the stock calipers?

not that i know of..... i know a few years back saleen made an explroer but i dont know if the parts are still around or if they had upgraded brakes on it

The Saleen brakes were recalled due to the aluminum caliper brackets failing. This resulted in the Saleen Explorers running the stock setup.

Contact the guys at www.speedfreak.cc they have a custom Brembo setup for the front that is the only thing out there. The Saleen stuff was recalled, and nothing else will swap from another vehicle. As far as i know, thats it.

Oh, and be prepared to spend some bank. One off Brembo stuff aint priced like mass produced 13" Cobra stuff. ;)

What about ABS power brakes?

I saw on Trucks! a new master cylinder and reservoir / lines that increased the psi from 500psi (stock) to 1800psi for more pressure on the rotors from the pad. The name of the company was ABS something. Anyone tried to upgrade the brain instead of the muscles?

Hi all:

I've been checking on this, too. Saleen offered a brake upgrade option that used Alcon calipers mounted on a special aluminum bracket to the stock caliper mounting points. The aluminum brackets were prone to failure, so Saleen recalled the brake systems. On ********* dot com, they've been discussing this quite a bit. There is a guy who has had steel replacement brackets made to refit the Alcon brakes for $170 a pair. The problem is, the Alcon parts were specific to Saleen Explorers, and are hard to find. They're talking about putting together a special order from Alcon, but you can expect the price to be around $2000 by the time you get calipers and discs for the Alcon system. Also, replacement pads are $100 each.

Big brakes are basically totally custom for Explorers. It can be done, but it will be expensive.

Regards,
John.

Check those pad prices again. I had heard more like $250+ for just the pads for the Alcon calipers. I posted elsewhere here on changing to the 12" Sport/Sport Trac rotors. LOL,

I have Mustang Cobra rotors that I am looking for decent four piston calipers to mount on my Mountaineer. I have been looking, and I'm about to fall back on a Chevy application, the Corvette. I'd like nice aftermarket calipers, but cost and availability are more important. Let me know if anyone finds a pair of calipers with approx. 1.75" pistons, LOL.
