Certain Rent-a-Car agencies are installing GPS units in their vehicles which monitor your wherabouts and speed. Beyond that they can disable the vehicles starter and access any other electronic component of the vehicle.

National Car Rental is one of the companies using this technology.

Better not take that SUV or Jeep rental off-road :D

the whole Onstar technology kinda scares me. who else might gain access to the info about where you are and what you are doing?

i also dont like the idea of cameras in public places. the scan every person that passes by and try to match them to a wanted criminal. there were even a couple false arrests somewhere (i think it was in Florida, not sure). i dont even like the cameras at traffic lights. they're all over the place here.

Soon all new cars will have these and maybe the Gov. will have the controls.

Top speed of the day = automatic ticket.

Electronic fence = no 4 wheelin.

If people keep buying em then we'll all get used to them, then we may not even notice them.

If a car I have EVER has one of these it will get removed. Unless I can re-wire it and block attempts for outside sources to use it. There is nothing in the Constitution that says one of these would be allowed on my vehicle so no way jose! LOL

BTW the last few cars that have been rented to me have been National's...

I don't like any of it. The cameras most of all. You can't even go out side without being monitored by someone, it's a blatant violation of I believe the 4th. amendmant.

From what I'm told Utah Highway Patrol is testing a form of GPS that can target your car and track you. This is operated by a UHP car miles away from you and he can track several targets at one time. I guess it's something like the movie "Enemy of the State". Military tech. is trickling down. You never know whos watching.

as far as cameras mailing you traffic tickets and stuff, i thought it was illegal(at least here in texas) i heard that those computerized radar machines that see if your speedin then if you are snap a pic of your liscnece plate and mail you a ticket were no longer ligit. somethin about an officer had to be presant. makes since to me, what if somebody borrows your car and they are speeding and then you get mailed the ticket?

Yes, it was first put in the Corvette without the buyers knowing. ONe guy sued and won in court.
