Hello there.

I just swapped a fresh 5.0 into a mustang, with the efi system from a 96 expo.

I will be using it for drag racing and a little bit of street driving to shows and meets.

I put a 35-425-8 Comp cam in it that i had around. reading later comp says not for use with efi. im just wondering if anyone knows why.

Comp specs are .513/.529 lift, 230/236 duration at .050

Im guessing because of the duration/overlap.

as it sits now, it will fire for a second then stall. if will kindof run if i hold the throttle open some, but not well.

Im talking with MGS Performance to see if they can get a tune for me.

any tip or info would be great..

thanks

Can be done but as you found out it really needs to be tuned.

Did you try to fire and run things before the cam to make sure you had no other issues?

I did not. It is a fresh build an I just need it to run for next season. So I could put a mega squirt on it if I had to. But I'd like to try and get it running with the stock computer..

The OBDII Explorer computer(PCM) can handle that came easily. If everything from the 96 system is in place, then it should at least start and roughly run. If not then it needs some checking of the wiring, MAF, connectors, O2's etc.

That's a bigass cam at 230 duration @0.050 lift. For a 302 that's a high rpm cam, very high, and the intake, heads etc, have to be matching. Good luck,
