Bionic Marshmallow getting new Winch Mount Front Bumper!!

I'm posting these photos for Rick M., owner of the Bionic Marshmallow. . .

These photos are the first stages of his new winch mounted front bumper. If you have ever seen Rick's rig, you are immediately drawn to the rear bumper that Rick made himself - - high quality work with all the goodies (Hi-Lift jack mount, shovel mount, antenna mount, back up light, etc.).

The front bumper looks to be of the same level of quality. . .

Looks plenty strong! Any idea how much it weighs?

Weight

I'm guessing too much. I will weigh it, I want to know too. I'll tell you it's all I can do to lift it without the winch. I now has all the steel on it, yes more than what is in the pics.

Weigh in

Paul Sabin and I pulled the bumper off and weighed it, 170 lbs  without the winch! So that makes for a grand total of 245 lbs for the bumper, winch and fairlead.

Damn that's heavy, but it will stop a tank (OK, no it won't), but its still heavy as hell.:D

Might want to change that vehicle nickname to "The Bulldozer"

That thing is awesome!! Pretty damn stout to say the least. . . and hey, as long as I'm on the subject of stout, thanks again for the beers.

And pizza . . . :p

Just give me a yell when you want to mount that thing back on the Marshmallow.

Paul

I'll get started painting it tonight and work on the wiring for the winch.

You very welcome (pizza & beer), but we didn't get to the stout. I do have some homebrew oatmeal stout, we'll get to it next visit.

I'll send you the latest pics, if you don't mind posting them.

More Photos !!

Finished bumper . . . Awesome

Make sure you get your alignment checked! My custom front bumper weighs in around 120-130lbs and threw my alignment off by almost 1 degree!

Just thought i'd pass that along.

NICE bumper!

Jim

Tarheel,

Steel total was $156.00. I had most of the plate metal cut to fit when I placed the order, so that ran cost up a little. The daimond plate was a "gift";) from a guy we do business from work. If I had to buy it, the cost for a full 4'x8' sheet (the only way the yard sells it) is $212. The other costs were welding rods $15(yes rods), but the use of the welder was free, I put in all new grade 5 bolts about $10 and the wiring for the winch was about $20, including longer cables and the remote plug (seen under the drivers side headlight) for the winch remote control.

JamminG4Jim,

Thanks for the heads up, I'll get it checked.

Oh, I almost for got.

Thanks to Paul for posting the pics!

Looks Great Rick

Looks good Rick, I havent been on the board much to keep up, but looks like everything turned out really well.

Ah well back to my kitchen work...rear bumper work to start in the fall.

Thanks Steve, It actually came out better than I had hoped.

I did have the opportunity to pull a vehicle up a trail and the whole system worked well.

Rick and Paul,
Did you guys use 3/16 or 1/4 inch stock? Actually - what are the measurements of the stock you used? I ordered a rear bumper, but after building some nerfs I would like to do the front bumper myself...

Thanks

Jon
