Black globe, Vacuum reservoir on v-6???

Has anyone found one on a SOHC?

Witchdoctor (post#5) has a 98 SOHC in his sig. He also says something 'bout it being behind a door.

Even though I have the V8, my canister is well hidden, it is attached to the wheelwell under the airbox. There are 2 screws that hold it to the front of the wheelwell, just a bit above the foglight.

aldive i just figure out that everybody with 4 wheel drive they have the glove with both engines ohv and sohc.

i guess that all v8 with awd they must have the glove also.

Hi, I have an SOHC '97 when I first changed my spark plugs I put the wheel well "cover" out finding strange black ball. Had no idea what is it for ? Now I know that is not a spy equipment but just a vacuum reservoir. Anyway, I had it on my SOHC. Is it active or not I don't know.

Al, it's in there, you just haven't found it yet. My 99 SOHC Limited has it, I am a little fuzzy about the exact holes to bolt it back to. Mine has been left connected to the AC.

Naw, just the regular ones.

Yes, mine's 4WD. The vacuum reservoir is related to the AC, the vent solenoids. Beyond the 95/96 need for it's front diff, the globe is required for all AC trucks.

The early pictures that I have show the lines going under the aux relay box there under the air cleaner. It appears like it's directly below the air cleaner, under the inner fender support.

The mystery deepens!

Is there a MAX AC setting on the cabin control panel switch? If so, when you turn to it do you hear a change in blower pitch and increased air flow? If so, that's the recirc door closing. If not, hmmm.....

There also is a vacuum sticker next to the hood latch. It should show the vacuum tree, assuming there's one on the SOHC. The extra hose goes to the reservoir. It's not shown on the sticker because it's not part of the emmission controls.

Here is mine. I believe if you pull your passenger side fender liner, you will find yours attached. It isn't visible without removing the liner. Mine is (was) an AWD, so no vacuume disconnect for the front end.

My hoses were very brittle and broke when I removed my liner. I spliced them back together with rubber hose slipped over the outside.

Maybe this will help figure it out

Look for 2 vacuum lines going thru firewall, under the blower motor area.

The grey one is switched vacuum--for the heater bypass valve--ignore it

the black one is the HVAC vaccum supply, which comes from the reservoir globe. You should be able to trace the black supply line to either the manifold, or to the globe.
