eec-iv will never give a code that reads "ecm failure" it wil give any number of combonations of codes such as:
1. Maf sensor failure
2. Tp " "
3. O2 " "
4. Primary fuel circuit failure
etc...
Even with all these code it will still spit out this one (111) system pass and (998) operating in failure mode. You can start changing all you sensors, wire loops, bat cables and wouldn't fix anything. I chased this ribbit for 30 days. I tested each sensor, went to the parts house and tested their parts against mine. Only to get the same test results.
I am ready to junk it. I had one last part to test, the ecm. Pulled it out and called around to it have test with a b.o.b. (break out box) but no one had one so i did the old eye ball check, opened the case and found two little parts inside hangging on by one their two wires. Those two parts made all the above mentioned problems and codes. Keep in mind you can't just swapout the ecm with any old ecm you find in junk yard. It has to match the part number exactly. I didn't follow that rule, i put in the first one i found. It ran but very good, the timeing advance was off.
Back to the parts house with the bad ecm purchased a remaned ecm for under $300. Pluged it in,cranked it on.
fixed everything including the fuel guage
