- 2007 Ford Explorer XLT
Hey folks, I've got a problem.
2007 Explorer XLT mostly stock. I bought this truck used about a year ago and am trying to do the brake pads. The caliper bolts are just freaking seized. I've gotten an impact wrench and completely rounded the bolt on the first one trying to get it off. I'm getting a "bolt out" with the next paycheck, but am not enthused.
So here are my questions:
1) What's a good way to unstick these? Am I going to have to get drastic and cut the bolts under the boot, and then hope I can get them out? Am I looking at having to replace the entire calipers?
2) Can I remove the caliper bracket without removing the caliper first (assuming I compress the caliper to get the pads free of the rotor?
Eventually, I'll be replacing the calipers and rotor, but was hoping to not have to take this step right away. I simply can't afford that much right now.
Any help or experiences you can provide would be appreciated.
