The brake lights usually come on when you hit the pedal...

Unless you mean the ABS light? Or the Brake (!) light?

Marylanders who live close to the Bay waters usually get a little too drunk around this time ;) ahahah!

HAHA lol i meant Brake! light, on my dash.....

ive never driven a 1st generation explorer (91-94) so i dont know if the 1st gens have a Brake light on the dash... but my 2nd gen doesnt have a Brake light on the dash.

r u the original owner of this explorer? maybe the previous owner wired up a brake light indicator to the dash...

If its the [Brake (!)] light, something is up with your parking brake. Try tightening the bolt or whatever it pivots on.

happened's all the time for me, just PULL up the parking brake that should work, otherwise check the bolts

o.k. everyone go get a cup of coffee.
There are several reasons for the "idiot" lite to illuminate....
1st-low brake fluid( probable)
2nd-faulty e-brake switch (not likely considering your clues given)
3rd-loose wire on e-brake switch (hmm...doubt it )
4th-faulty connection/sensor on your resevoir (ehh..could be)
can't think of anything else right now......good luck
