Has anyone found a brighter map light bulb that will not melt the housing. I tried the 906 and it melted the reflector the holder and the black plastic deal to hold the bulb centered. Now i have had to buy a new lighting assembly to fix my screw up so i can have map lights. Just for future reference dont use the larger 900 series bulbs. For christmas i bought myself one of those lights you put on your head made by petzl. It uses three leds and puts out alot of light. almost as much as my mini maglight but with a slight blue tint and alot whiter. I was thinking since it only uses three leds and no real reflector maybe i could make a bulb based on it. So far the petzl paople have not written me back on if i can get some "replacement parts" or even a manufacturer of the leds. All it should be a matter of is getting a small piece of plastic and drilling three or four holes in it and adding a resistors to knock down the voltage to where it needs to be. If i get some info ill post it and get to work. Major

Well i found some led replacement bulbs they have a led replacement in almost any color for almost all our bulbs guess i wont have to make one after all here is the link if anyone is interested. Dead Link Removed :exp: :D

You are talking about the bulbs on the ceiling above the drivers seat correct? I cant seem to figure out which one is the right bulb on that site.... I thought the those bulbs were size 3022?

Yea those are the ones i was talking about. I just got my new map light assembally where i melted my old one. i picked it up at the ford place and had the new one installed in no time. The only difference i saw was the new one had metal relfectors and the larger bulb that previously melted my old light. So i tryed them out tonight and they put out allot more light that the old plastic reflector deal i had before. i dont know what number bulbs this one uses i just know it is the larger size possibly the 906. there are so many bulbs that look the same but are not. Just like there are about ten or 12 bulbs that look like the 168. I wish they would just print the voltages and light output on the packs. oh well thats all for my complaining. Danny which reflector does your explorer have? Is it a metal one or a plastic one? if the reflector is plastic i would just go and get a metal one from your dealer because in my case it puts out allot more light then the one that came in the explorer. It cost me $45 and that comes with the whole light assembly and two bulbs. Just make sure you got the metal reflector one so you dont buy what you may already have. Major

The whole assembly was $45 and that came with the black piece that holds the reflectors, the reflectors, two bulbs and the thin copper thing that connects the power to the lights. It does not have the clear lense or the black base that the lense snaps into. But you can use the one that came with the explorer so it isnt needed. So really if you have ever taken off the overhead console and you will see a white colored part whice is the compass and temp gauge and next in the middle is the lighting assembly it will be just plain black plastic with the two reflectors visible. hope that helped. I too melted the crap out of my dome lights and puddle lamps. I was so mad. One stoped working, so I though it just burned out. I was ok since I bought the lights in a pack of 24. So I have plenty of spares. But when I took the cover off I noticed it was milky and then I noticed the bulb exploded from the plastic melting on to it. The area arround the bulb is all diformed. I went with LED lights. They are not as bringt but look really cool.

So 906 is the same size as a 3022 bulb?
