Like many of us, I have bitten by the broken defroster arm problem. In my case, the end of the arm broke off and is stuck in the flap inside the heater box. I have seen different methods of trying to deal with this, but I wonder is anyone has tried the following. I am wondering if pulling the radio out to gain access to the top of the box, cutting a small hole in the box, pushing the broken arm back into the flap and then running a small screw into it might work.. Any tried this?? Dumb idea?? Thoughts? What a poor design by Ford.... they should have to cover this as having a non-functioning defroster is a safety hazard.

Sounds logical and if you can use a good quality metal tape like heat/air guys use it should seal your hole you cut back up. Not saying this will work but it might if you can engineer it back sturdily.

Another possibility I am thinking of. I am thinking/wondering if running a screw through the arm and broken top might also accomplish my goal of getting this piece back together. The arm is hollow, but I think the little tip that breaks off is actually solid. I would have to use a washer on the end, again since the arm is hollow, but maybe this will work?? Thoughts?
