Broken ignition problems

Hi all I'm new on here and looking for help. OK I have a 99 explorer with an ignition problem. Long story short I pulled out my ignition barrel just to find out that the tip at the end of it has broken off and now stuck inside the ignition housing so just wanted to know how can I get this out without having to spend more money to get it fix PLEASE.

Someone else had this same problem recently. IIRC he was able to remove the broken piece by rotating the piece the broken part goes into. You can do this by moving the rod that connects the key lock to the ignition switch, which is located lower down on the steering column, by hand.
