Broken seat adjuster handle

I went to recline my front seat yesterday. Pulled that handle just as gently as I have for the past 11 years. This time, the handle snapped off in my hand. The metal sheared where the handle connects to the seat. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it replaceable or should I try to have it welded back in place? It looks as if I have to remove the power seat switch plate first to get to the adjuster.

Every time I see the photos of that repair I cringe a little. Functional and inexpensive - yes. Pretty - no. I guess it doesn't matter as it doesn't show. What can I say, I'm too much of a perfectionist I guess.
