Bronco II Power Mirrors ???

I picked up some mirrors from an 86' Escort today. I need to get some wires so that I can make a loom to connect the passenger side. While I was there I got the switch too. My plan is to mount the switch In the drivers side door panel just like the Escort. Pictures to come later, got to watch my Dawgs play first.

Great, Looking forward to your pictures.

Well, I got my mirrors finished, it was pretty easy. Just use a later model switch. The old '80s switches that I got from the junkyard were all bad. I ended up using a switch from a mid '90s Taurus. I will post pictures when ever i figure out how. Wiring was easy just follow the colors from the switch. The hardest part was trying to put the switch in the door. The blank panel below the headlight switch would be an easier place to add it.

Looking forward to your pictures. Those Escort mirrors are hard to find its a good fit but supply is limited.

Thanks, ROOKIESHOOTER. I'm still trying to get it right

Will, They look great. I can't wait to put mine on. Good job.

That's the same kind of control switch that I have. Got mine from a 97-98 Explorer.

I think so too. I wish I would have done it sooner. When I saw them on your Bronco they looked so good, knew it was time to get it done. The Ranger has got me through the years, bought it new the summer of '91. But those factory style mirrors have always been terrible. My daughter says that she will never let me get rid of it, she grew up in that truck. Needs paint, but it's been a great truck. The '90 Bronco II has to be going before that happens though. Do you have any updated pics of your rig for some motivation?

Will, I'm still pulling the engine, tranny, and transfer case from the donor. I decided to leave the axles they are 3.24 open so I got 3.73 limited slip from another Explorer. That is the ratio that the Bronco has now. I should have the drive train from the donor pulled by the end of the week and then I have to start pulling the drive train out of the Bronco. I wanted to put my control switch for the power mirrors in the center console that I don't have but seeing yours in the door doesn't look bad. Its going the be a while I want to replace gaskets and the oil pump, water pump, and thermostat, etc in the donor engine while I have it out. May be paint it up a little. I'm changing my interior from blue to tan I'll probably paint the hard plastic parts there it a auto paint store real close to me that can mix up custom colors for plastic. So I will have a tan dash from the donor explorer and I'll paint the plastic parts to match then I would like to find some heated leather seats as this rig will be seeing snow. Those Escort mirrors are hard to find. If I run across some I just might buy them in case someone on here wants to convert to power mirrors. Did you say that the Mustang Conv. mirrors are the same? I'll have to go back and read the thread. Anyway those mirrors look really good on your rig. Did you put any bracing behind them? Some fender washers or a plate? Just curious. Do they bounce when you hit bumps? I weighed them and they weigh 3 times what the factory mirrors do. Thanks for joining me in this project I'm sure there are others who will want power mirrors. I will post pictures when I get the mirrors mounted even if there not hooked up. Have a good night. Dave

There's a auction on Ebay for an 88, 89, 90 Escort power mirror if you compare it to the picture of my 85 mirror it looks different. Let me know what you think. It is item number 270497536214 on Ebay.

Nice job on the mirrors and switch. I think I will look for a set.

Well, I was told by one of the guys at Mustangs Unlimited that the 87-93 Mustang convertibles and Escort mirrors were the same. We pulled a Mustang off the shelf and took it out and held it up to my truck several years ago. I think those e-bay mirrors are close maybe just a slight difference, maybe a different year or a Mustang mirror? I believe those would work though. the JY had 2 Escorts with these mirrors, but the drivers side on one had a cracked housing, or I would have got both sets. They are rare, and not all had the same style mirrors even on the same year models. Mustang convertibles are going to be even more rare. It seems a lot of folks are interested in these mirrors, so I bet people will be looking for them now. I ran my wires through a hole in the inner fender, and put everthing in a split loom to protect it.

I was thinking that Mustang mirrors would be the same or close enough.

Add T-top Mustang mirrors to the list. I think they were only available in 87-88.

Forgot about the t-top models. I used a piece of door sheetmetal for support, cut about 3/4 of an inch bigger that the mirror gasket. This should be enough to support the extra weight. I had an old Ranger door laying around and cut it out so that it would have the same contour.

Hi All, I put the F150/Full Size Bronco mirrors on my Ranger, worked well, Dorman makes a OEM style mirror switch. I picked up a switch and pigtail from the junk yard, made my own wire harness (super easy). You must put heavy duty metal reinforcement inside the doors or the mirrors will shake and bounce. I would recommend sandwiching some vibration materials between the door and the reinforcement plate/s.

Best regards, Glenn G.
