Building A Sub Box

Okay so I am going to be building a Custom Sub Box, I really want to put in a Plexiglas window, And Mount Some Sound Reactive Lights where you cant see them, but see them light from lighting up. Couple Of Questions, I'm Not sure on how to do then sound reactiveness yet, still looking it up.

Do you want to buy something like that pre-made or are you good at assembling electronic circuits?

Well define good. Probably gonna Buy something, Just Need to know how it works. Okay so I've been looking and I'm getting this light, But still not sure on what controller I want.
