On recent road trip cylinder 4 started misfiring, the wire had gotten too close to the exhaust manifold and burned. I was able to tape up the burned sections and tape the wire away from the manifold to keep us road tripping. I need to replace that wire and am looking for options. I was planning on replacing the whole set, but Rockauto has the price of motorcraft wires at $89. The set for my Cougar is half that. Are the heat shields the reason for the increased cost? Can I relocate the heat shield? The wires/ plugs are ~1.5 yrs old. Thanks for any advice or options.

If you just need one wire AutoZone used to sell single wires. You have to ask as they're kept behind the counter. Bring you old wire with you to match the length and ends.
