Ok so I got a 18 Explorer XLT with the Sport Appearance Package on my radar. I talked to the sales guy and scheduled an appointment to go check it out tomorrow at noon. It's an 18' with ONLY 14K miles which to me seems a little sketchy as most 18 Explorers I've seen are 25k miles and up.

So he sends me the Carfax report and come across this.....The guy says it's not structural just cosmetic and it's been taken care of by the insurance company. I'm not sure what the actual damage was but from the pictures it looks solid. Would you BUY OR NOT BUY?

Pass. Mileage for 2 years old is not sketchy. Its probably a lease car.

No reason to accept a sketchy carfax for what you will pay like some dough for.... unless its like $20k.

You could always do as the Car Fox says and have it inspected by an independent shop.
Would cost a few bucks, but could save you a lot of headaches down the road.

Mileage may be accurate. I lease my vehicles. My previous one was a 2017 Platinum. My dealer offered me a deal on a 2020 Aviator and took my Explorer back with a year left on the lease and just under 7500 miles on it over a 3 year span. They put it up for $42,987 (CDN) last November.
I'm a week short of owning my current vehicle for a year and it has 1988 miles on it.

So does that mean there WAS structural damage?

I don't think it actually states that except that they recommend that it be inspected by a body shop specialist. That would be a good thing to do anyway since it was repaired after an accident. You could also try to track down where it was repaired and check with them as to what was done.

I agree with Peter.

It could have been a minor bump that cracked the bumper or dented the rear quarter panel, but no other damage.....or it could have been more severe.

Food for thought, my wife's 2009 CX9 'found a tree' in the winter and had about $6000 of damage (no structural damage). This was almost 7 years ago. It was claimed on insurance but didn't show up in the carfax report that was ran about a month ago. So, I wouldn't put a lot of faith in a carfax report regarding accidents (reported or not).

I purchased an 18 Explorer XLT with the Sport appearance package yesterday. It has 2nd row captains chains and honestly looks roomy enough for our 2 children. Great vehicle so far and my 4 year old loves it already
