My brother in law just finished the install of 37" H1 wheels/tires on his 4 door Wrangler. As a result, I have the opportunity to buy his barely used wheels and tires from him. The wheels have a lifetime warranty and the tires are the size I want next anyway. It's 5 wheels, 5 barely used tires, and 4 tires w/ ~25% tread usable for spares.

These are the wheels:

And the tires are 35" BFG KM2s with hardly any wear.

Question: What dollar amount should I offer him? He has indicated being very generous, but that's not how I operate. I would prefer to give him at least close to what he could expect by selling them on the Jeep forums or Craigslist. I've done some research and have seen prices all over the place. So, what would you say is a fair price to pay for this setup?

I have to get adapters to fit the wheels and have been quoted at $280 for adapters that I will trust. There are cheaper alternatives but I won't fool with aluminum when adding this much weight. They also come with a lifetime guarantee.

Being just married and still working out the fun part of accounting for the extra expense of a wife (LOL), I'm not sure how much I should be putting into my truck right now, but I really want to do this. I'm also about to rebuild the engine of my '69 Cougar (goal of 500+ hp), so I hate for the two to compete over funds because the ST will lose every time. If it's reasonably within reach, I'll sell my stock wheels/tires at whatever offer I can get to help offset the costs.

What do y'all think?

Opinion?....why sure........

A) are you prepared to cut the sheet metal, pound the pinch folds flat, remove part of the rear quarter panels, Cut or replace the front bumper?

B) If not, are you ready to install a min of a 4" lift, and maybe still have to trim?

C) Those are great tires, but the wheels are not worth it IMHO. To big a backspace, wrong lug pattern, adapters suck with hubs (35's are bad enough on hubs). I would ask if he would just keep the wheels, and sell the tires. Then get a set of wheels that fit & work with your rig.

D) Barely used, I would offer $150 each for the KM2's if they are 12.5" wide, less if they are smaller.

It takes a lot of work to fit 35's on a 2nd gen, even a ST. ;)

Cut, pound, pinch inside the wheel wells, yes. Remove part of the rear quarter panels; maybe. Where exactly do you think that would be necessary. I have a ton of room inside the rear wheel wells and an unmounted test fit looks like they should have no problem in the rear. Cut the front bumper; up to a point, yes.

B) If not, are you ready to install a min of a 4" lift, and maybe still have to trim?

Nope. This is just to hold me over until I get a solid axle under it.

To big a backspace, wrong lug pattern, adapters suck with hubs (35's are bad enough on hubs).

The backspacing and lug pattern can be fixed with the adapters. If it happens to destroy the IFS quicker, maybe the wife will agree on the necessity of a solid axle sooner.

I am not afraid of work. Sawzalls are fun!

Thanks for the reply. This is exactly the kind of discussion I need to have.

What amount were you thinking about offering him ???

From what you describe with all five matching wheels/ tires and four extra spare tires I'd look around $,1200-1,500 roughly.

What bolt pattern are the wheels, I thought they were 5x4.5 like the ST, right ?

What are you gonna do when you do your SAS, SOA ????

Gman,
So, how do you get away with it safely? Or do you just live on the wild side?

Jerry,
That's the price range I'm thinking. The bolt patterns actually switched, I think in '07. It's a 5x5. As for the SAS, I'll figure that out when I get to it.

Ok yeah the newer Jeeps changed over to the larger bolt pattern. The setup you're talking about with the adapters and 35's would put an extreme amount of stress on the frontend components as well as the rear axle bearings and rear diff if you have a LSD like I do watch out for side-to-side play. I have some s-t-s play so I need to add friction modifier to help that.

I do not have LS.

I have considered getting wheels with the correct bolt pattern but they're hard to find in a 17x9 with 4" backspacing.

I'm not going to go too far out of my way to do this but they're just sitting here in the garage. I also don't want to spend a ton of money unless its for the SAS.

I want to get back to rebuilding my Cougar's engine, so if doesn't come together pretty smoothly, I'll just spend the extra money there instead.
