My 97 is getting really rusty so with thoughts of replacing it I have found a 1994 Sport. It is a southern vehicle and is supposed to have absolutely no rust underneath or on the body.... and it has only 84,000 miles. Asking price is $4700 at a dealer. Seems a little high to me and I haven't seen it yet. Any thoughts on this price out there?

A 94 for $4,700? Your kidding me. It had better been one of those dealer/technician owned/repaired every time it done something odd.

My 94 shows it has 5,800 miles on it, some rust, and other issues. Runs and drives almost great..... $4,500? Heck, I would even fix the rust and apply fresh paint according to the factory paint numbers.
In my area in average condition, they generally go for under $1,500 to $1,800 with between 150,000 and 190,000 miles, the normal rust... blah blah blah.

I would not pay a penny over $2,500 for that one and that is if it runs perfectly as in damn near brand new. It very well be the nicest explorer in the world but not for $4,700 with its fuel economy and current gas prices, the current U.S. economy.

yeah no kidding... I paid 1500 for mine in December with 194k one owner. It is from North Carolina so only very minor frame surface rust.

Ain't no way I'd pay $4700 for a 94. That's just someone trying to take advantage of a southern truck because 98% of vehicles rust to death before dieing of natural causes. (I was stationed at Fort Drum for 4 years so I know about y'all's rusty cars.

Ok, thanks. It's the mileage that got my interest. IF, and thats a big IF its the real mileage.

Mine shows 05,8xx.x miles. Yeah. All stock pretty much and only driven daily all year around :D

Was happy when it rolled over to all zero's but..... I got it at 84k, well I was guessing 184k since it was mileage exempt title. When I hit 190k I was off roading, but was on vacation when I hit the zero's in Kentucky. Jack Ruby's steaks are really good at the bellterra hotel and casino just inside of Indiana. $95 for two to share a 24oz Ribeye. Plus a monster baked potato and two jack and cokes. Was a free hotel stay, two nights. I didn't complain.

Mine used to be a 5 digit... now it's a 6. I went off the carfax report and made the numbers match... I had 2 odometer readings, one at 50k in 94 or 95 and one for 114k in 00 or 01... I used deductive reasoning to come to the mileage reading. Then on top of that prior to me tag/title the explorer there was only 1 title issued.

now it says 20086x.x vs 0086x.x

I think all cars should have been equipped with the extra digit.

No way should you pay that much, that's why I don't try to sell my 94 as I know I wont get diddly for it even in the shape it's in.:D

Which dealer is it,I used to be a GM tech in the Rochester NY area as I am from Hannibal.....much to my despair.:p:

I found it on Craigslist about 2+ hours away. That's why I haven't seen it yet. They specialize in rust free southern cars so the ad says. You don't see these every day, with low mileage and all. I am in Wolcott.... just a few minutes from Hannibal!

My father has advertised vehicles on craigslist before. He always had pictures.

Now I want to know why these guys did not post any pictures?
Also, is there any additional information on the listing that you have not posted here?
Are you willing to post the link to the listing?

Not like I will travel from Indiana to purchase this expensive explorer. Found a two door today, five speed for sell, but they did not list a price and we all know how hard it is to see mileage from the driver side window.

Ha..Wolcott,like 12 miles up the road. I don't care what shape it's in,it's worth $2000 tops.Mine has 142,000 on it from West Virginia and is clean. It's worth a whopping $1800.:D

Nice X
KBB has it @ $3200
NADA has it @ $3000

I might go look and possibly offer them 3 tops but I doubt they will take it. Its 2 hours away though.... I would like a nice low mileage first gen for sure though! Been looking for a while.

Gonna crawl around under my 97 and see if I can make it last a while longer. I don't use it a lot but I do plow a couple driveways with it and haul my RC planes around in the summer..... Its getting rough body wise but it only has 116,000 miles and still runs great. I know the core support needs some serious repair but thats dooable I guess. The rockers are completely gone up to the door bottom. Time will tell I guess.

Edmunds had this one at 1999

Explorers on the cheap....

These are our Explorers...
91 Explorer XLT with 192K when purchased from kid that had too many DUI's and Mom was making him sell........700cash...needed inside and outside door handles and a good cleaning
Tan, cloth interior, cold A/c...purchased Sept 2010
I drove this as daily driver til I found the EB...Lol. Now this is Hubbys daily driver.

93 Eddie Bauer Explorer with 225K when purchased May 2011 from couple that needed the money to put into wifes car...900cash
Green/Tan, leather interior, manual sunroof, and cold A/c...gas gauge didn't work (still doesn't but I use Trip OD and haven't run out of gas yet) and some rear driver side bumper and tail light damage...nothing a dead blow hammer and a new tail light didn't improve.
My baby now...she needs ball joints and some front axle work, but was reliable enough that after only one week after buying it...we drove it to Michigan and back :D

Both were neglected by previous owner....so multiple oil changes, new air filter, spark plugs and tranny flushes were done after getting them home.

Lovingcolorado

P.S....forgot to mention both are 4X4 with 4.0 v6s and the auto trans...the EB goes into 4 wheel drive but makes some nasty noise, but still works. Think they messed up some of the gears doing some heavy off roading with it. The 91 runs just fine but has the lifter noise when cold...as soon as it warms up its quiet tho.
