Buzzing/whinning sound-Please help!

Hey Guys,

First post, great site!

I have a 2002 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 4.6L v8 that has developed a weird buzzing/whinning sound.

You can only hear it when the engine is cold and in 4th and 5th gear. The problem goeas away when the engine reaches normal temps.

It sounds like a whinny/buzzy pump from the engine/trans. area.

I just bought a 02 Explorer Eddie Bauer with the 4.6L engine, automatic transmission. Your problem sounds like the same thing which took place in this one. The previous owner had the whinning noise from the transmission at 40K miles. Ford replaced the transmission with a factory rebuilt unit at no cost to the owner. Seems to be a flaw in this model. You might check to see if Ford has some type of extended warrenty on this.
