So one of my Christmas gifts to my sister this year is changing most of the fluids on her 97 Ranger. I crawled under there to look at changing the transfer case fluid, and I can only find the fluid level check plug. On my explorer they are both easily visible, which leaves me feeling like a moron that I can't find the drain.

Her t-case looks like this one, but on the left side there is some sort of balancing weights or something blocking where the drain is in the pict.... Should I assume that it is behind the weights, or is it in a different place.

its behind the weights...thoes 4 post in your pic are where the weight ataches.....its gotta be behind the ballancer think...(not even sure what it does...never replaced it on my t-case after the swap....lol

Ya, I've heard that they are ok to take off. It just seemed kinda weird to have to take the weights off to change the fluid...

Thanks for the quick response.

That weight is basically just a vibration dampener... But yeah, the drain plug is behind it. :)
