Has anyone used these filter sustems?

I am familar with the Amsoil units but there are others out there... opinions and thoughts requested.

Someday......

There are tons of companies who make them.
They are amazing. They use them on LARGE trucks often.

They work VERY well and pay for themselves.

I want one, eventually I will run one, once I build my new engine.

No' it is an "extra" filter but works as a by pass filter. Look at Amsoil's site for details.

Actually, there are a couple of different types. AMSoil has a unit that relocates your main filter (flow thru or FF) and adds a second bypass filter. I think most of the others add a single bypass filter and leave your existing filter in place. On the single bypass type you must find a location to tap the supply from (tee into oil pressure sender) and a return (dipstick tube or valve cover??).

The advantage of the bypass is that the filter is way more efficient at trapping small particles (micron and sub-micron in some cases). The disadvantage is that the flow rate is low, so you need both filters, the FF filters all oil but only catches relatively big particles, the bypass catches tiny particles but only filters a fraction of the oil each pass to keep flow rate reasonable.

I havent tried this, but for large oil capacity it seems worthwhile because you can run the oil for extended time and recover the cost that way.

I'm still working on adding aux filter for trans fluid because that seems to be the weak link on Explorer. I switched to AMSOil trans fluid and I will add aux filter and cooler as soon as I can find time to install it.

No, planning on maybe never changing the oil. The filter(s) will be changed.

William Schmacher has the AMSOil bypass filter installed on his 2nd Gen Explorer. I think he mentioned that it was installed behind the grille. I found some discussion about it in this thread where Gerald offers to run syn oil for 10K if someone will pay for the analysis

I have had the AMSOIL bypass set up for over a year now. I love it. I mounted to the A/C coil support. I wasn't surre if this was going to work or not but I haven't had any problems yet. I still think I am going to look for another spot to mount it. I'll see if I can get some pic's up.

Did you consider other mounting locations? Why did you mount where yu did?

It was the only place I could find to mount it easily. The key word here was easily. Now I probably will mount it some where else that may not be so easy. It was important for me to have easy access to the filters.

I am planning to install the Amsoil BMK-13 in the next few weeks.

I was just contacted by Amsoil to become a dealer. I really only want to do it for a discount for myself and a few friends. If you plan on waiting a few weeks, I'll get everything together (discuss with Rick about selling here, adjust my business license, and order product) and see what my costs will be. I will be running all Amsoil products along with a bypass filter when my new motor and T/C doubler are installed.

Just came in from an hour of measuring and trying to determine the "ideal" location for my Amsoil BMK-13 By Pass filter system.

Any thoughts and suggestions?

I now have my Amsoil BMK-13 By Pass Filter kit ( http://www.amsoil.com/bypassfilters/instructions/bmk13.htm ) ordered ( should be here Friday.

I still have not determined the "proper" mounting location and would love some more input.
