Okay I have a 93 mustang 5.0, and I am swapping trannies, and I need to know the difference between the c-4 and the c-6 transmissions, because I bought a rebuilt c-4 but I think the guy screwed me over and gave me a c-6! How could I tell them apart by looking at them? And will the c-6 hold up to the abuse of hard racing? If anyone could shed some light on this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

The C6 is deeper from top of the case to the bottem of the pan. The C6 is longer from the pump to the rear tail shaft mount. It is also wider through the main body of the case. The C6 is alot larger in the center of the case, and the bellhousing is thicker and slopes back farther. so it will need more room it the trans tunnel. As far as if it can hold up to the abuse? Oh yeah...The C-6 is the one you want for hammering...

ahhhhgggg, screwed you!!???? if he gave you a c6 over a c4 then he did you a favor, they are the ones that you want to race, no the c4. my buddy has blown up to of the c4 and has finally figured it out and bought a c6.

Well, hell yeah then. Moron tried to screw me, and insted did me a favor.:D Thats awesome!! :D I just ordered my Holley intake, new throttle body, and a Nitrous "Big shot" Wet Kit. I plan on running low-mid 11's all motor, and low-mid 10's with NOS. Thanks guys that makes me feel alot better now. Oh but will my driveshaft still fit? Once again Thanks

The easiest way to tell a C-6 from a C-4 is the bellhousing. The C-4 has a removable bellhousing. The C-6 bellhousing is part of the case.

A C-4 transmission if built right will easily out live a C-6 tranny in a race application. The C-4 also has less rotating mass, in turn putting more power to the wheels where you want it.

C-6

The C-6 is going to be the cheaper of the two for best bang for the buck. You'll spend twice as much on a C-4 for the same Horsepower capability. The easyest way to tell the diff on them is the C-6 the tranny pan has a corner cut off it. The C-4 is square. I'd go C-6 all the way. There also is no diff between a big block C-6 except the housing itself. All interchange.

Just to clear something up. Internally, all C-6's are the same. There are actually 3 different cases and none are interchangable since the bellhousing is part of the case. The 3 cases are the small block (rarest), the FE (352-427) and the big block (351M-460).

c4

A trans shop built a c4 for my mustang and it never gave me one problem. The car was a street car that ran low 12s, maybe I was just lucky I dunno. The c4 weighs the least of of all ford trans.

Yep its a C-6, and the thing now is like "speedfreak" said its alot heavier than the c-4 (by quite alot) which means it will take more power to turn. So just to hear some other peoples opinons, should I keep it, or should I send it back and get the C-4? The only thing bothering me now is the weight. Keep in mind both would be, and are rebuilt with all race internals, including an aftermarket shift kit. Thanks for your input.

The name says it all. I drag raced a Mustang for a couple of seasons before I got bored and moved on to a new area. Now I modify the hell out of my X but the freak for speed is still strong hense the displacement increase in my truck. There is a guy in my area running mid 9 seconds with a turbocharged C-4 Mustang and no problems at all with the tranny.

id say keep the c6....it is stronger but heavier.... but if you have the horse power to turn it it most likely will never fail...... horsepower additives are easier to do than replacing trannies in my opinion
