California-Solar and L.E.D.'s = Fun

...California has the first ever, Solar powered Ferris Wheel which includes over 160,000 L.E.D. lights..:D

"Once illuminated, the Pacific Wheel will add sparkle to the Southern California coastline with 160,000 energy-efficient LED lights providing dynamic, computer-generated lighting entertainment each evening. The enhanced LED lighting will also provide 75 percent greater energy savings than the previous incandescent bulbs. With the adaptation of its solar-power application, the all-new Pacific Wheel will continue to be the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel."

That is super sweet. I don't have speakers at work, so they may have said it, but I'd love to know how many watts those LEDs are. They are seriously intense!

That is a pretty sweet concept. The City of Chicago needs to do that to the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, solar powered and LED. That would be an awesome ride. Get on in October and get off in May. Finally got enough sun to move around.

I can't believe it's only 160,000 led's. Looks like a lot more to me.

...They now use the live shot of the "Ferris Wheel", during the nightly weather segments here and I've been looking for the so called "Swastika" and it no longer seems to be on the light display...I am sure someone brought it to their attention...

..Back from the Dead because it's going Dark..

http://la.curbed.com/2016/5/4/11592450/santa-monica-pier-ferris-wheel-lights

The Ferris wheel is getting a brand new LED lighting system that promises smoother animations, new effects, and lots more colors. All 160,000 of the wheel's LED lights will be removed and replaced with 174,000 more advanced LEDs.

More detail..

http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Pacific-Wheel-Lights-Out-Temporarily-378304381.html

Indeed, a sophisticated new LED system means more "energy efficiency" for the solar-powered wheel, which arrived at the pier in 2008. Santa Monica Pier is a bit older than that, of course, having officially opened in September of 1909.
